Description
Built as part of Ford's 100th anniversary celebration, the first-generation Ford GT reintroduces the GT name previously used by the Ford GT40 Mk II. In 2015, a successor to the first-generation Ford GT was unveiled and put into production near the end of 2016 for the 2017 model year.
The Ford GT uses a similar external appearance to the original Ford GT40 cars, but bigger, wider, and most importantly 3 in (76 mm) taller than the original 40 in (100 cm) GT40s. As a result, the Ford GT could potentially be named the Ford GT43. Despite being visually related, no structural similarities exist between the modern GT and the GT40 that inspired it.
The Ford GT is powered by a 5.4L Modular V8 engine with a twin-screw supercharger. It produces 550 hp (410 kW) and 500 ft·lb (678 N·m). With the car weighing 3390 lb (1538 kg), the GT has a power-to-weight ratio of 358 hp (267 kW) per tonne. This engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels.
